Takahe Analytical Instruments Laboratory Shakers

Laboratory Shakers

When a workflow calls for moving an entire platform of flasks, bottles, or vessels — for culture growth, liquid-liquid extraction, leaching, or assay incubation — the right shaking motion makes the difference. Takahe builds wrist-action, reciprocating, and orbital shakers, each suited to a particular kind of laboratory work, with an incubator option from ambient to 60 °C for temperature-controlled protocols.

The Wrist Action Shaker reproduces the gentle pivoting motion of a hand shaking a flask — a back-and-forth arc around a central axis. This action gives thorough yet low-shear agitation, making it well suited to liquid-liquid extraction, dissolving solids, and resuspension where a vigorous orbital or reciprocating motion would be too harsh.

An adjustable arc angle and variable speed let the operator tune the intensity to the sample. Flask clamps hold a range of vessel sizes, from small Erlenmeyer flasks to larger separating funnels.

The Horizontal Reciprocating Shaker produces a linear, back-and-forth motion in the horizontal plane – the standard configuration for liquid-liquid extraction in separating funnels, leaching protocols, and general agitation of flat-bottomed containers, bottles, and trays on a single platform.

It is widely used in environmental labs for solvent extraction and in food-testing labs for leaching, where directional agitation gives better contact between phases than circular motion.

Available with incubator: this shaker can be supplied with PID temperature control from ambient to 60 °C – see the Incubator Shaker.

The Vertical Reciprocating Shaker generates up-and-down linear motion in the vertical plane — the configuration of choice for applications where gravity-assisted mixing is beneficial, such as wrist-action extraction of separating funnel contents, resuspension of settled precipitates, and certain dissolution protocols.

The vertical stroke ensures complete contact at both ends of the container, making it particularly effective for tall vessels and centrifuge tubes where directional mixing needs to counter gravity-driven sedimentation.

Available with incubator: this shaker can be supplied with PID temperature control from ambient to 60 °C — see the Incubator Shaker.

Orbital Shaker

Circular orbital motion for flask cultures, extractions, and biological assay work

Optional Incubator

45 LPM

Speed range (RPM)
0 -300

Orbit (mm)
0 - 45

The Orbital Shaker generates a smooth, circular orbital motion that is ideal for bacterial culture growth in flasks, liquid-liquid extraction, cell culture washing, and routine mixing of reagents and buffers across multiple flasks simultaneously.

A flat, spring-clip platform holds Erlenmeyer flasks and bottles securely. Variable speed and a programmable timer make it equally suited to short agitation tasks and extended overnight runs at ambient temperature.

Available with incubator: this shaker can be supplied with PID temperature control from ambient to 60 °C – see the Incubator Shaker.

3D Dancing Shaker

3D Gyratory

45 LPM

RPM
0 -100

Platform Sizes

The 3D Dancing Shaker moves the platform through a continuous three-dimensional gyratory path – combining an orbital swirl with a rolling tilt in every plane. The result is a smooth, wave-like “dancing” motion that carries liquid gently across the whole surface of each vessel, giving thorough, even coverage without the shear forces or foaming of high-speed orbital shaking.

This gentle, uniform action makes it the tool of choice for staining and destaining gels and blots, hybridisation and washing steps, blending viscous solutions into a homogeneous mixture, and mixing sensitive samples such as blood, cell suspensions, and cultures where full coverage matters but delicate material must stay intact.

Available with incubator: this shaker can be supplied with PID temperature control from ambient to 60 °C – see the Incubator Shaker.

The Incubator Shaker combines shaking with a precisely controlled temperature environment in a single instrument. It is the standard platform for microbial culture growth, fermentation, enzyme kinetics, and biochemical assays that require both consistent agitation and a stable temperature throughout the run.

A digital PID controller maintains temperature from ambient up to 60 °C. The instrument can be supplied with either of two shaking motions, chosen to match your application:

  • Orbital motion: smooth circular orbit — ideal for flask cultures, fermentation, and cell growth where shear-free agitation matters.
  • Horizontal reciprocating motion: linear back-and-forth stroke — suited to temperature-controlled extraction, leaching, and protocols needing directional agitation.

Frequently asked questions

Nitrogen evaporator questions answered

The SpeedoVap LV is the full-featured flagship — up to 50 samples with five independent gas manifolds for simultaneous multi-format runs. The SpeedoVap LX is the budget entry-level model: it keeps the controlled water bath, programmable timer, and built-in exhaust at a lower cost, for labs with straightforward, lower-throughput workflows.

Choose the SpeedoVap Dry Block when water-borne cross-contamination is a concern — for example in sensitive clinical, forensic, and trace-analysis workflows. It uses a precision aluminium dry-heat block instead of a water bath, removing the contamination pathway entirely.

Gas flow varies by model: the SpeedoVap LV requires 150 LPM with all manifolds active, the LX 90–150 LPM, and both the Min-eVap and Dry Block just 45 LPM. Connecting any model to a Takahe N2 Genie nitrogen generator eliminates cylinder costs entirely.

Yes. Takahe nitrogen evaporators are supplied with full IQ, OQ, and PQ documentation — essential for pharmaceutical, clinical research, and food-testing laboratories operating under GLP or GMP. Training is provided at installation.
