Takahe manufactures SPE systems for both positive pressure and vacuum extraction — the speX Series for high-throughput pharmaceutical and CRO workflows, and vacuum manifolds for food testing, environmental, and water quality laboratories. Designed and manufactured in Navi Mumbai since 2015.

What is Solid Phase Extraction?

Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is a chromatographic sample‑preparation technique that uses a solid sorbent to selectively isolate and concentrate target compounds from complex matrices. In a typical SPE method, either the analyte or the interfering matrix components are retained on the sorbent, then the retained analyte is eluted in a clean, concentrated fraction ready for GC, HPLC, or LC‑MS analysis. Takahe’s SPE systems implement this by driving solvent through the sorbent using either positive pressure or vacuum ( negative pressure).

Compressed nitrogen or instrument air drives extraction at a controlled, uniform rate — simultaneously across every position.

The speX 144 is built for Phase IV clinical studies and high-volume CRO operations where 144-sample runs are routine. Two problems arise at this scale that simply don’t exist at 48 or 96 positions — arm fatigue from managing one large rack, and errors in the transfer step from SPE to evaporation

Split cartridge rack

The 144 cartridge rack splits into three independent sections of 48. Visibility of eluting samples is identical to working on a speX 48. Each section is lighter on the arms, easier to handle, and loads flat on the benchtop without the risk of contaminating cartridge tips. Conceptualised, designed, and manufactured first by Takahe.

Bio-eVap compatible collection rack

The speX 144 collection rack fits directly into Takahe's Bio-eVap 144 and 210 nitrogen evaporators. Move extracts from SPE to evaporation without any intermediate transfer — the rack goes straight in. No transfer errors, no lost samples, no additional handling time between steps.

Well-plate format SPE is the extraction workflow of choice in pharmaceutical discovery and high-throughput bioanalysis — wherever 96-well plate density, automation compatibility, and consistent recoveries in viscous biological matrices are all requirements. Positive nitrogen pressure drives uniform flow across all 192 wells in a single run, eliminating the well-to-well variability that vacuum manifolds introduce as individual wells progressively run dry.

For food testing, environmental, and water-quality laboratories working with smaller sample batches, Takahe’s vacuum manifolds draw extraction solvents through SPE cartridges using controlled negative pressure. Available in 12 and 24 positions, with a choice of acrylic or chemical-resistant glass chamber and individual flow control at each port.

The 12 / 24 position vacuum manifold processes all SPE cartridges simultaneously under controlled negative pressure. The transparent acrylic/glass chamber allows direct visual monitoring of solvent flow through each cartridge during conditioning, loading, washing, and elution. Each of the ports comes with an independent stopcock valve. 

Note: The vacuum manifold requires a separate vacuum pump and vacuum trap, available on request. Contact Takahe for pump-selection guidance.

The speX 210 is Takahe’s newest and highest-capacity positive pressure SPE manifold — 210 positions in a 15 × 14 matrix, launched to complement the Bio-eVap UHC 210 nitrogen evaporator. Together they form a matched 210-sample extraction-to-evaporation line for the largest Phase II and Phase IV clinical batches, with the same transfer-free rack workflow proven on the speX 144.

The speX Series ships with full DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ documentation; the vacuum manifolds ship with IQ/OQ/PQ. All models carry a one-year standard warranty with after-sales support from Takahe’s Navi Mumbai team.
